déjà vu
The term déjà vu (French:
"already seen") describes the experience of feeling that one has
witnessed or experienced a new situation previously. [Wikipedia]
I'm sick. The Floyd Landis doping reports are killing
me. After his collapse the stage before I was elated with his
epic ride on stage 17. But now I'm sick. I've had
this sick feeling before. Just over a year ago I suffered the
same ailment when doping reports came out on Tyler Hamilton.
The cases are surprisingly similar. Both riders were at the
top of the cycling world. (Tyler had just won an Olympic gold
medal.)
They
are both American. Both rode for the Phonak cycling team.
The doping tests used in both cases are extremely complex and
controversial. Both men denied the allegations. In both
cases I desperately want to believe them. But...
I fear both are guilty. If they doped I wish they had been
honest and admitted it. When British cyclist David Millar got
caught doping he admitted it and accepted the consequences. I
can respect him for that - even forgive. But if Floyd and
Tyler are guilty they are cheaters and liars. It makes me
wince just to write the words. I'm not feeling too well.
déjà vu.
